Cardinals Fly South

Wheeling, W.Va.---The Wheeling Jesuit volleyball team, currently ranked 18th in the nation, departed for Pensacola, Fla. on Tuesday, Dec. 4 in hopes of competing for a national title at the NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Championships. The Cardinals (38-2) earned a No. 1 ranking in the Atlantic Region and hosted the Atlantic Regional Tournament.
 
The University of West Florida and the Pensacola Sports Association will host the championship segment at the UWF Field House in Pensacola, Fla. on Dec. 5-8.
 
On Wednesday, Dec. 5, the eight remaining teams will participate in pre-tournament press conferences starting at 7:25 p.m. EST.  Press conferences will also be held after each individual match during the tournament.  Fans can watch all press conferences live.  Direct link
 
On Thursday, Dec. 6, five-time defending national champions Concordia-St. Paul will open the championships against Wingate at 1:00 p.m. EST. At 3:30 p.m., BYU-Hawaii will play West Texas A&M, and at 6:00 p.m. Indianapolis and New Haven will square-off.
 
The Cardinals will play in the nightcap at 8:30 p.m. against No. 7 Tampa, and fans can view All the Matches LIVE at www.ncaa.com/liveschedulefall. After the match, follow the Post Match Iinterviews.
 
Wheeling Jesuit won the Atlantic Region Tournament, posting back-to-back regional championships with wins over Fayetteville State University (3-0), Clarion University (3-2) and California University of Pennsylvania (3-1).
 
Prior to post season play, the Cardinals finished with an overall record of 32-2 which included an unblemished 14-0 mark in West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play, collecting their sixth consecutive WVIAC regular season championship. Jesuit continued to dominate league play, winning the WVIAC Tournament in straight sets. The Cardinals defeated Shepherd University (3-0), Fairmont State University (3-0) and Seton Hill University (3-0) en route to a fifth consecutive WVIAC title.
