Euclid, Ohio---In a meet featuring several non-standard events at Notre Dame College, the Wheeling Jesuit women's and men's swim teams defeated the Falcons on Saturday afternoon at NDC's Mellen Natatorium. The Women set two new pool records en route to a 141-120 victory, while the Men set a pair of pool records with 191-67 triumph. With the sweep, both squads improved to 3-1 in dual meet competition.
The meet began with WJU taking first in the both 200-yard medley relays. The quartet of Maria Palmquist, Meghan Ebbert, Alexis Anderson and Emily Martin clocked in at 1:54.72 which ranks second in the Appalachian Swimming Conference. For the men, the team of

Jandre Strauss,
Patrick Chadowski and
Tom Smith touched first with a time of 1:39.69.
Freshman Vanessa Gipson won two events the 1000 and 500 yard freestyle races. She set a new NDC Mellen Pool Record in the 1000 Free with a time of 11:01.89, eclipsing her previous best by over 13 seconds, and finished first in the 500 free with a 5:27.22 time.
Meghan Ebbert kept the momentum rolling with a triple victory and pool record performance. She set the standard in the 200 free with a time of 2:00.17, and continued to finish first in the 100 and 50 yard breaststroke events with times of 1:09.77 and 32.63, respectively.
Other winners in individual events for WJU included Emily Martin in the 100 Free (56.89), and Lydia Kidd in the 200 IM (2:19) – Kidd's time was a season's best.
The Jesuit men won 13 of the 14 events led by triple winner
Tom Smith, who sprinted to victories in the 50 and 100 freestyles with times of 21.56 and 48.23. Smith picked up his third win in the 50-yard butterfly at 24.16.
Bill Risse and
Patrick Chadowski won two events each for the Cardinals while setting new pool records. Risse set a new mark in the 100 Breast in a time of 1:01.10 and won the 50 Breast in 28.91, while Chadowski set the Mellen rewrote the pool standard in the 100 Fly with a time of 52.13 and won the 200 IM with a
1:56.30 time.
Jandre Strauss added a pair of wins, swimming to victory in the 200 Free (l:49.14) and 100 Back (56.11).
The distance team of
Chris Munster and
Evan Walker went 1-2 in the 1000 Free as
Munster touched first at 10:18.12, and Walker followed at 10:23.12.
Walker returned to the winner's podium in the 500 Free with a time of a 4:56.92.
The rounded out the meet with a win in the 200 Free Relay. The team of
Phil Mueller, Jess Truchin, Peter Schraf and Strauss posted a time of 1:30.97.
The Wheeling Jesuit will now have nearly a month to prepare for a dual meet at Fairmont State University on Friday Jan. 18. The Cardinals are scheduled to make a splash at 6:00 p.m.
