Box Score WHEELING, W.Va.---The Wheeling Jesuit women's basketball team played host to Tiffin University at the Alma Grace McDonough Center on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals battled the Dragons to the final buzzer, but Tiffin pulled out a 3-point 50-47 victory. The Dragons improved to 2-1 on the season, while Jesuit slipped to 1-1 overall.

WJU newcomer Breanna Butler paced the Cardinals' offense with 14 points on a 50 percent, 6-for-12, effort from the floor. Jamie Sobczak and Taneka Lewis followed with nine and eight, respectively, and Alex Anderson chipped in five points and added a team-high 12 rebounds.

The Cardinals held a slight advantage on the glass, 40-39, but committed 15 turnovers compared to the Dragons 11 turnovers.

Karli Mast poured in a team-best 11 points for Tiffin followed by Melissa Gilliland and Jessica Harris' seven-point performances.

Tiffin got on the board first with a lay-in, and WJU responded with a trifecta. The Dragons responded with back-to-back buckets and never looked back. TU led by as many as 11points in the initial 20 minutes, and by the end of the first half, Tiffin established an eight-point 26-18 lead.

Within the first five minute of the second half, the Dragons pushed the lead to 13 points, 33-20, and led by double digits until the five-minute mark. Jesuit cut the lead to five, 49-44, with 1:19 left on the clock, but couldn't convert and was forced to send Gilliland to the foul line. Gilliland split the pair of free throws and WJU's Sobczak drained a 3-pointer as time expired.

The Cardinals will open conference play on the road Tuesday, November 20 against Glenville State College. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
