WHEELING, W.Va.---The Wheeling Jesuit women's and men's swimming teams improved to 2-1 after defeating West Virginia Wesleyan College on the road in Buckhannon, W.Va. The Cardinals' recorded several outstanding swims as the women posted a 123-72 victory, and the men swam to a 110-95 finish.
The women secured eight first place finishes, and the men followed with four. Both teams opened the meet with wins in the 200-yard medley relay. The women's team of Paige Carpenetti, Lydia Kidd, Maria Palmquist and Vanessa Gibson flew to a 1:58.02 time, while the men's team of
Henrique Fructuozo,
Jandre Strauss,
Patrick Chadowski and Thomas Smith stopped the timer at 1:39.19.
Alexis Anderson won the 1000-yard freestyle event with a time of 11:43.79, and Vanessa Gipson won the 200 Free with a time of 2:05.23. Following two second place touches by
Chris Munster and Strauss, Thomas Smith posted the men's second win in the 50 Free with a time of 21.40.
Meghan Ebbert continued the women's dominant ways with a 2:18.20 win in the 200-yard individual medley, and Kidd took second at 2:22.66. Emily Martin and Palmquist used the 11
th event, 100-yard butterfly, for a back-to-back finishes. Martin touched first with a time of 1:03.25, and Palmquist finished at 1:03.88.
After the Lady Cats won the 100-yard freestyle, their first win of the day, Taylor Ulisse, Kati DiCola and Colleen Millett swept the 100-yard backstroke with times of 1:06.82, 1:08.52 and 1:08.94, respectively. Anderson earned her second win of the day in the 500 Free (5:43.37) and completed the hat trick as the women's 200 Free relay team of Anderson, Ebbert, Kidd and Taylor Susteric clocked in at 1:48.00.
The men also won the 200 Free relay as Phillip Mueller,
Peter Scharf, Strauss and Chadowski posted a time of 1:30.78. Chaowski rounded out the Cardinals' winning ways with a first place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:00.90.
“The women swam an amazing meet, and the men showed their true grit with a come from behind effort to win,” Head Coach

The WJU swimmers will travel to Indiana, Pa. and defend their men's title at the 3-day Pidgeon Memorial Invitational, beginning on Thursday, Nov. 15 at Indiana University of Pa.
