Jesuit Secures Regular Season Title with a Pair Wins

Va.---The No. 19 nationally ranked Wheeling Jesuit volleyball team kept their conference record unblemished as they recorded a pair of WVIAC victories on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals opened the day with a win over Bluefield State College in straight sets (25-10, 25-8, 25-3) at Ned Shott Gymansium, and traveled to Concord University for a matinee affair with the Mountain Lions. WJU defeated CU 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-19) and secured the regular season WVIAC Title.

The Cardinals' attack boasted a blistering .634 hitting percentage against BSC led by Rachel Gambow's 15 kills. Emily Blank and Angela McNulty also finished with double-digit kills, tallying 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Mikayla Zernic orchestrated the Wheeling Jesuit attack, finishing with 43 assists. Defensively, Gabby Guanicale led the match with nine digs.
 
Against Concord, Allissa Ware led the attack with 13 kills, while Jenna Pew and Ashley Remlinger chipped in eight apiece. Pew added 15 assists, and Madison Strall notched a team-best 21 assists. Rachel Caja contributed six kills and five blocks.
 
Wheeling Jesuit will prepare for the 2012 WVIAC Volleyball Tournament on Thursday at the University of Charleston. WJU earned the top spot while Seton Hill picked up the No. 2 seed. Alderson-Broaddus is the No. 3 seed while Fairmont State garnered the fourth spot.

Pitt-Johnstown secured the No. 5 seed while Charleston and West Virginia Sate are No. 6 and No. 7, respectively. Shepherd is the No. 8 seed while West Virginia Wesleyan is No. 9 and Concord is the No. 10 seed in the tournament.

West Liberty is the No. 11 seed while Davis & Elkins secured the last spot in the tournament by the second tiebreaker.
