Jesuit Volleyball Downs Bobcats 3-1

Box Score BUCKHANNON, W.Va.---The No. 14 ranked Wheeling Jesuit volleyball team earned their seventh league victory on the road against West Virginia Wesleyan College. The Cardinals (19-2, 7-0 WVIAC) needed four sets to defeat the Bobcats (6-12, 2-2 WVIAC) 3-1 by scores of 25-16, 23-25, 25-14 and 25-19.

The Cardinals cruised to a 10-6 advantage in the opening set and continued to floor kills, extending the lead to 20-15. Allissa Wareand Jenna Pew delivered the final two kills for a 1-0 Jesuit lead.  

The second set was much different, as Jesuit held a 10-7 advantage, but the Bobcats came charging back. A pair of WJU hitting errors allowed WVWC to take an 11-10 lead, and the Bobcats' Casey Pattyn followed with three service aces, 16-11. Jesuit fought back, tying the set at 20-20, but Wesleyan quickly put-away two kills for a 22-20 lead.
Jesuit, again, equalized the set at 22 points apiece, and Wesleyan capitalized on an Erin Bond kill and a Jesuit service error for a 24-22 advantage. WVWC's Sarah Crowder connected with the final kill to even the match at one game each.

After the second set, Jesuit bounced back with two solid performances to secure the match.  In the third set, the Cardinals rushed to a 10-6 start and extended the lead to 16-9. Pew fueled the offensive outburst with three kills, while Ware and Rachel Caja added two kills apiece.  WJU continued to roll, building a 24-13 advantage. Pew floored the final kill.

In the final set, the match was even until 14-14 when the Cardinals began to distance themselves from the home squad – Ware and Mikayla Zernic each floored kills. WJU continued to attack, and a pair of shots from Abby Wietrzykowski lifted the Cardinals to a 22-17 lead. A Bobcat error extended the lead to 23-17 and Wietrzykowski and Pew ended the match.

Pew led the offense with 16 kills followed by Ware's 13 kills. Ashley Remlinger added seven kills to the mix, while Caja and Wietrzykowski contributed five and four, respectively.

Wheeling Jesuit will be back in action on Wednesday, October 10 in Glenville, W.Va. for a WVIAC match with Glenville State College at 6 p.m.
