Jesuit Cruises to a 3-0 Victory Over Slippery Rock

Box Score WHEELING, W.Va.---The No. 18 Wheeling Jesuit volleyball team wrapped up regular season play at the Alma Grace McDonough Center on Tuesday evening against Slippery Rock University. The Cardinals defeated the Rock 3-0 by scores of 25-18, 25-14 and 25-20.

Before the match, WJU Head Coach Christy Benner recognized Jenna Pew for achieving the career milestone of 1000 kills. Pew eclipsed the mark on Oct. 4 against Seton Hill University and is averaging 3.16 kills per set this season.

In the first set, Jesuit established a two point advantage early and continued to build the lead, extending the margin to six points, 17-11, with a balanced attack. Pew, Allissa Ware, Rachel Caja and Abby Wietrzykowski each floored three kills, and Remlinger had one. In addition, Pew and Remlinger tallied four blocks apiece, and Madison Strall had one.

The Cardinals flew to a 15-4 advantage in the second frame, and cruised to an 11-point victory. Pew led the brigade with six kills wile Ware and Wietrzykowski chipped in three apiece.  Jesuit carried the momentum into the final stanza, taking a 18-10 lead before closing out the match 25-20.

Pew led the offense with 13 kills, bringing her career total to 1,102 kills, while Wietrzykowski followed with 10 and Ware contributed nine. Remlinger and Caja finished with six kills each, and Strall and Emily Blank added three and one, respectively.

Strall kept the offense in motion with a team-high 28 assists and Pew chipped in 14. Makenzie Ripley led the ground attack with 15 digs.

The Cardinals will be back in action on Saturday, November 3 against Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pa. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:05 p.m.
