Box Score Murfreesboro, N.C.--- The Wheeling Jesuit men's soccer team exploded with four second-half goals en route to a 5-3 Atlantic Region win on the road against Chowan University. With the win, Wheeling Jesuit improved to 9-5 overall, while Chowan fell to 2-12 overall.
Chowan's own goal allowed the Cardinals' to establish a 1-0 lead, in the 5
th minute, when
Victor Picchio's shot deflected off a Chowan defender and found its way into the back of the net.
In the 21
st minute, the Hawks tied the match, 1-1, as Dale Pearson sent a shot in the net on the far post. Two-and-a-half minutes later, the Hawks grabbed the lead as Kenny Moore sent a shot from 35-yards out over the WJU goalkeeper's head, 2-1. The Hawks continued to attack the Cardinals' defense in the first half, but couldn't get another shot past the Cardinal keeper. Chowan held a 2-1 halftime advantage.
After the break, Wheeling Jesuit gained momentum, tying the game in the 58
th minute on a corner kick by Picchio. Picchio fired the set shot into the box, finding
J.J. Hawkshaw sent a header past the Chowan keeper on the far post. Two minutes later, the Cardinals lined-up for another corner kick, and this time
Luke Roan was on the attempt. Roan set the ball flying into the back of the net from the corner to give the Cardinals a 3-2 advantage.
In the 63
rd minute, the Hawks equalized the match again with an unassisted goal by Jose Oteze. The stalemate only lasted five minutes as Jesuit offense continued attack. In the 68
th minute,
Nicolay Netskar connected with what proved to be the game winner, beating the CU keeper on the near post. Netskar added a second goal three minutes later which sealed the 5-3 result.

Cody Thompson earned the win and collected nine saves.
Wheeling Jesuit will travel to Buckhannon, W.Va. on Wednesday, October 17 for a league contest with West Virginia Wesleyan College. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
