Before taking the helm at Wheeling Jesuit, the Westbury, Wilshire, England native served as a graduate assistant in track and field and strength and conditioning coach at Missouri Baptist University for the 2016-17 academic year. Fautley also played for the St. Louis Bombers Rugby Football Club and served as an assistant rugby coach at Christian Brothers College High School.

Before coming to the United States, Fautley was part of the Old Patesians Rugby Club from September 2010 through December of 2015, serving as a coach and player. While a part of the Old Patesians RFC, he toured Texas, where his team played both San Antonio RFC and Austin Blacks RFC in 2013. Jake played in the summers from 2013-15 for the new Rugby League Club of Old Patesians Rugby Football Leauge. Fautley was a Cover Supervisor and Physical Education teacher at All Saints' Academy from 2012-15.

Another unique experience, Fautley logged six years of coaching (2009-15) as a Chris Raymond Tag Rugby Coach to the junior section of Old Patesians RFC, where he taught individuals of all ages how to play the sport in a non-physical, contact form.

Playing wise, Fautley was part of the Men's Rugby Union Team at the University of Gloucestershire from 2009-12. Fautley's rugby playing experience dates back to Junior Rugby Union for Westbury RFC and Warminster RFC (2003-08), and he started playing for Rugby Union at Matravers Comprehensive School when he was 11 years old.

Fautley earned his bachelor of arts and bachelor of science in sports coaching and sports education from the University of Gloucestershire. He went on to receive his master's degree in sport management from Missouri Baptist University in May 2017.
