Terry Edwards

Coach Edwards enters his tenth season as head coach of the University's Cardinal baseball program. Edwards has spent the last 25 years as a teacher and coach at Wheeling Central Catholic High School. As head baseball coach since 1984, his teams have won over 325 games. He has been recognized by the Upper Ohio Valley Dapper Dan Club (1999), named conference baseball coach of the year twice (1988 & 1998), and honored as OVAC Coach of the Year in 2000.

The Central baseball programs have won 11 sectional titles in addition to 8 regional championships. Coach Edwards’s teams have played in the WV State tournament on 8 occasions including 4 of the last 5 years for the championship. The “Knights” finished runner-up twice (1998 & 2003). Highlighting the program were back-to-back state championships in 1999 & 2000.

Edwards is actively involved in the Wheeling community, having directed or worked numerous baseball camps and clinics as well as served as a board member for the OVAC baseball committee and American Legion Baseball Association.

In 2011, the Cardinals made the Post Season for the 1st time in school history. The 2012 Cardinal baseball team won more games than any other WJU team and narrowly missed the Conference Tournament.

Edwards received his bachelor’s degree from West Liberty State College in 1976. He resides in Wheeling with his wife Chrystal, and their two sons, Justin , and Josh.
