Ricky Moore enters his 13th year as the Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach for Wheeling University in 2019-20.

A three-time Mountain East Conference (MEC) Coach of the Year, Moore has been a part of the WU programs for a total of 19 years, including two as an assistant and four as an athlete. The Wheeling native was inducted into the Wheeling University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2018.

Moore has led the Cardinals to five cross country conference championships (three men; two women), with 18 all-region athletes and six national qualifiers. On the track, Moore has guided Wheeling University to three track & field titles (one men; two women) with 55 all-region honorees and 75 national qualifiers. In total, 11 times has a Cardinal athlete garnered All-America recognition under Moore's tutelage.

In 2019, the women's team collected its second-consecutive MEC Track & Field Championship in 2019 and Moore was named both the MEC and the USTFCCCA Atlantic Region Women's Coach of the Year. The men's team finished as the runner-up at the MEC Championships for the second-consecutive year and fourth time since the first MEC Championship in 2014.

Individually, pole vaulter Anna Massa collected her third and fourth All-American honors of her career when she took fourth at the indoor championships and third at the outdoor championships. On the men's side, multi-event athlete Darius Berry qualified for both national championship meets and earned All-American honors in the heptathlon at the indoor championships in Kansas.

In 2012, the men’s and women’s cross country teams secured both West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) championships, and he was named WVIAC Men’s and Women’s Coach of the Year. In 2010, the men’s team claimed the WVIAC title and Moore was awarded the WVIAC Men’s Coach of the Year.

The Cardinals also excel in the classroom as both teams have earned Academic All-American honors with several All-Academic student-athletes. WU teams have been recognized with USTFCCA All-Academic honors 24 times (14 XC; 10 T&F), with 36 individuals earning the distinction.

Before his career as a coach at Wheeling University, Moore competed as a student-athlete for the Cardinals. During his tenure at WU, Moore obtained two All-American plaques, including a third place finish at the NCAA Indoor 5,000 meters, and seven Academic All-American certificates. After college, Moore competed professionally for Saucony in events around the United States, finishing in the top-15 of several major events.

Moore graduated from Wheeling Jesuit with a B.A. degree in History and he currently resides in Wheeling with his wife, Bethany, and their three sons, Redick (12), Rylan (8) and Ryker (4).
