WHEELING, W.Va. – Jakub Swierczynski of the men’s swimming team has been named the WJU male Athlete of the Week following his record setting performances Friday night. The Chorzow, Poland native led the Cardinals with four wins while setting three WJU school records.

Swierczynski began the night with a win in the 400 medley relay, with a split time of 56.04 in the 100 breaststroke. He then set the 200 individual medley record with a time of 1.54.52, breaking the previous record set back in 2013. His third record setting performance came in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 57.02, breaking his own pool record he set last year. He also picked up a win while anchoring the 400 freestyle relay team with his split time of 47.12.

Jakub and the men’s swimming team next compete in Wheeling on January 23 against Urbana University at 1 p.m.
