WHEELING, W.Va. – Haywood Highsmith of the Cardinal men’s basketball team has been named the Wheeling Jesuit University Male Athlete of the Week. The 6-6 sophomore forward from Baltimore, Maryland helped lead WJU to a 2-0 week, improving their season record to 4-0.

Highsmith led the Cardinals in their 78-74 win over Ohio Valley University last Tuesday night. Haywood scored all 15 of his points and notched seven rebounds in the first 20 minutes of action. He added four assists, three blocks, and a steal to his box score.

Haywood helped WJU open up Mountain East Conference play over the weekend. He recorded his first double-double of the early season in the Cardinals 87-76 victory over Urbana University. Haywood tallied 10 points and 10 rebounds, five of which were offensive. He also tacked on two blocks, two assists, and two steals.

On the season, Highsmith is averaging 11.3 points and seven rebounds per game.

Highsmith and the Cardinal men’s basketball team return to action tonight, Monday November 23 at 7:30 when they host Notre Dame College.
