Halvorsen Finishes Consistent to Lead Men’s Golf at Atlantic East/Regional Preview

Wheeling, W. Va. - The 2024 Atlantic East/Regional Preview played its final 18 holes on Tuesday as the top programs from the region competed at the Oglebay Country Club. The Wheeling University Men's Golf team would round out the day shooting a combined 337, taking four strokes off their day one score. It was a strong end to the Mountain East Conference (MEC) portion of their spring schedule as they look to finish strong in their final invitational.

It was a consistent tournament for freshman Phillip Halvorsen, who saw himself in the top spot for the Cardinals once again on day two. He showed consistency on the course, equaling his day one score as he shot an 82 to round out play. Halvorsen would finish in a tie for 82nd place in the field with Millersville's Carl Ernst, Bentley's Aidan Stuart, and Southern New Hampshire's Evan Rollins. Finishing behind him was fellow freshman Robin Duzmann, who added three strokes to his day one score shooting an 85. Duzmann was the second Cardinal to place in the top 100 of the event, placing 99th with a two-day total of 167. Halvorsen and Duzmann have consistently been the leaders for the Cardinals this season and continue to lead the team into their final event of the year.

The biggest improvement of the day came courtesy Alex Parker, who knocked 12 strokes off his day one score, finishing tied with Halvorsen for the day two lead, shooting an 82. It was a PR effort for Parker as he rounded out his first event of the spring shooting a 186 that moved him up six spots in the event standings. Rounding out the field for the Cardinals was Luis Alvarez, who dropped three strokes off his day one score, shooting a 90 in round one Alvarez came back on day two and dropped three strokes off his score to finish at 87 for the second round.

The Wheeling University Men's Golf team competed in their final event of the spring on Sunday, April 28th, when they compete at the Dension Invitational.
